Meet John DuBrock

Chicago South Side native. Storyteller by experience. Author by a road he never quite expected.

John DuBrock has spent a lifetime collecting and creating stories.

Now, he’s finally written them down for you.

HIS STORY

From Chicago’s South Side to the Written Page

John DuBrock is a Chicago South Side native, longtime steel industry executive, hockey player, music lover, and author of Love Walks In.

Growing up in Bridgeport, John attended Nativity of Our Lord, De La Salle Institute, and Lewis University. His early years were shaped by a close-knit neighborhood, family, faith, hockey, lifelong friendships, and the music that became the soundtrack to an unforgettable era.

Professionally, John has spent more than 30 years building his career in the steel industry and currently serves as Vice President of Operations at Kenwal Steel. Before that, he spent 12 years in the waste management industry.

But behind the professional titles is someone who has always measured life less by accomplishments and more by the people who make it meaningful.

The friendships that last.

The family that grounds you.

The songs that instantly take you back.

The places you never really leave behind.

The stories that somehow become more meaningful with time.

Those ideas eventually found their way into John’s writing.

Some Stories

Stay With You.

John’s writing is rooted in the things he knows and loves: Chicago, hockey, music, friendship, family, faith, love, loss, and hope.

His debut novel, Love Walks In, combines those influences in a nostalgic love story that begins in 1980s Chicago and follows the relationships and experiences that shape us as we grow.

For John, becoming an author isn’t about leaving one life behind for another.

It’s about giving the stories he has carried with him a place to live.

“At the end of the day, the best parts of life aren’t the titles. They’re the people, the memories, and the stories you’re lucky enough to carry with you.”

— John DuBrock

Meet the Story Behind the Author.

John’s debut novel brings together hockey, friendship, first love, second chances, loss, hope, and the unmistakable nostalgia of growing up in Chicago in the  80’s.
